Hand Hygiene Day May 5, 2017

Hand hygiene plays an important roll in the protection against infection. On May 5th, 2017, the World Health Organization has created a day that focuses on the importance of hand washing in health care facilities. Let us all do our part and Clean Your Hands on May 5th.       SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands 5 May 2017 ‘Fight antibiotic resistance – it’s in your hands’ The World Health Organization urges you to focus on the fight against antibiotic resistance in the context of hand hygiene and infection prevention and control (IPC) programs. You can do this by supporting the 5 May 2017 calls to action. Hand hygiene is at the core of effective IPC to combat antibiotic resistance, and campaigning each year on or around 5 May is one important part of improving behaviour towards IPC best practices. This year the campaign materials are all co-branded with ‘Antibiotics, handle with care’ to demonstrate unity between antimicrobial resistance and IPC efforts. Who we want action to be taken by: we want health workers to clean their hands at the right times, building on hand hygiene improvement efforts made up to now; we want chief executive officers and managers to support hand hygiene campaigning and infection prevention and control programmes, to protect patients from antibiotic-resistant infections; we want IPC leaders to lead hand hygiene campaigning and start their journey of meeting the core components for infection prevention and control; we want policy makers to stop antibiotic resistance spread by demonstrating national support and commitment to infection prevention. Christmas Cheer – Happy Holidays!

We were happy to be able to go to our favorite restaurant in New Westminster – Stefano’s to celebrate some Christmas cheer with some of our associates.  We did things a bit different this year.  We took a section of the lower lounge and had our own personal space.  We did miss the dancing upstairs in the main restaurant, but we had so much fun as a group that it was ok.  We played some games and even brought our own music so dancing did happen at the end of the night.     Our Incredible Hosts Spreading some Christmas Cheer     Chris and Deidre are always great hosts, showing up early to welcome their guests.       As guests arrived, we played our first game – Get To Know You Bingo! With the ability to roam around and talk to people, we had a blast trying to complete our Bingo Board by finding out more about the people you work with all of the time. After our first game, we had some appetizers and some “spirits” to lift our spirits.  Most of our guests had arrived and we were able to sit and enjoy their company with our Christmas music playing in the background.       After dinner, we played another game of Unwrap the gifts  – the Saran Wrap Game – Game Playing is the Way to go! It wasn’t long before everybody was up and about, screaming and cheering on people to have their turn to unwrap the saran wrap ball of presents.  Bringing games to the Christmas party sure brought a lot of...
